Lead ranked 227th in state for resident earnings in 2017

Lead ranked 227th among cities in South Dakota by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Lead residents was an inflation-adjusted $24,651 per year. Lead had 1,420 households in 2017, with a population of 3,021.

The city with the highest median resident income in the state was Broadland. Broadland's median income was $107,857 per year after adjusting for inflation – $83,206 more than Lead. It had 15 households in 2017 and a population of 25.

Wounded Knee had the lowest annual resident income among cities in South Dakota, with a median income of only $4,361 per year. That was $20,290 less than the median income in Lead at the time. Wounded Knee had 91 households in 2017 and a population of 521.
