Graduates earn 510 degrees, certificates from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology

About 77.4 percent of the 510 degrees and certificates handed out by South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2017-18 were to students in engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in City conferred 288 bachelor's degrees and 69 master's degrees in engineering programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Data shows the school gave out 100 bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering, followed by 54 bachelor's degrees in general civil engineering and 32 bachelor's degrees in chemical engineering.

The school enrolled 2,654 students for 2017-18, including 2,304 in undergraduate programs and 350 in graduate programs.
