September 27 is World Tourism Day.

September 27 is World Tourism Day. It was created in 1980 by the United National World Tourism Organization as a day to foster awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political, and economic value. Today we celebrate by showing the photograph of the Deadwood Exhibit that was part of the Golden Spike Celebration in 1939. D.M. McGahey, curator of the Adams Museum, created the exhibit to advertise Deadwood and the Black Hills. The exhibit contained early-day artifacts from the Adams Museum. The Weekly-Pioneer-Times wrote on May 4, 1939, that the Deadwood exhibit “attracted a great deal of attention and many believed it one of the outstanding attractions in the big building.” Go and check out all the fantastic attractions in Deadwood today!
