More than 10,000 diapers and wipes and more than $600 in cash donations were received in the past week from community donations, City Hall department competitions as well as community collections at the main fire station and public safety building.
The collections were part of the annual Diaper Need Awareness Week activities. The collections from city departments and collection cribs took up a large portion of the mayor's conference room on third floor of City Hall. Mayor Steve Allender, Fire Chief Jason Culberson and Assistant Police Chief Scott Sitts took a break to pose with the mountain of diapers, which will go to Volunteers of America/Mommy's Closet of Rapid City, which hosted the week-long donation event.
City officials wish to thank the community and city employees for their donations.
