Bhsu Campus Activities Board Announces Rake-a-thon

The seasons are changing and students at Black Hills State University are getting ready to help. Organized by the Campus Activities Board, student volunteers are offering their time to rake the yards of Spearfish residents from Nov. 5-8. A minimum donation of $15 from participants is recommended.

The concept for the event was drafted as a collaborative effort by students to give back to the community. Hoping to serve as many community members as possible, the Campus Activities Board is aiming for at least 15 yards but is ready and eager for more. Community members will be able to access the help of the 18-member crew throughout the week.

Rio Elliot, a BHSU student organizer, said of the event’s goals, “I want the Rake-A-Thon to be an opportunity for some of the students at Black Hills State University to meet new people, connect with the members of the Spearfish community, and do an act of service and spread kindness.”

A portion of proceeds will go towards the non-profit Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation, to carry on the awe-inspiring hope of a beloved six-year-old girl from Spearfish who passed away from asymptomatic pneumonia related to a traumatic birth experience. The foundation annually sponsors a scholarship alongside all-inclusive playgrounds in Spearfish.
