Census Bureau: 7.2% of people in Pennington County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 108,707 citizens living in Pennington County in 2021, 92.8% said they were only one race, while 7.2% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Pennington County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 80.6% or 87,663 individuals. Following them, American Indian or Alaska Native accounted for 8.6% and totaled 9,326 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Pennington County is 2.8% higher than the state average, which stands at 4.4%.
