U.S. Senator John Thune from South Dakota addressed the Senate, outlining the objectives of the new Republican Congress and President-elect Donald Trump. Thune emphasized the mandate given by American voters to secure borders, boost economic growth, and restore national strength.

Thune congratulated President Trump and Vice President-elect Vance on their victory, noting that Republicans improved their margins in three out of four U.S. counties and gained support across various demographics. "President Trump won more Hispanic support than any Republican president ever before," he stated.

The senator highlighted key priorities such as ending what he described as the "Biden-Harris border crisis" and focusing on economic expansion. He criticized the last four years under Democratic leadership for inflation challenges faced by working Americans.

Thune also discussed plans to reduce regulatory burdens imposed during the Biden-Harris administration, which he claimed cost Americans nearly $2 trillion. Restoring American energy dominance was cited as a crucial goal for both economic growth and national security.

Recently elected to lead Senate Republicans in the 119th Congress, Thune expressed his commitment to empowering colleagues within the party. Drawing inspiration from his father's advice on teamwork, he said, "To pass the ball to the best-positioned player, to empower everybody on the team."

He stressed returning to regular order in legislative processes and ensuring all members have a voice through amendments. Thune promised aggressive efforts in confirming Trump's nominees and maintaining open communication with party members.

Expressing gratitude towards outgoing Leader McConnell for his service, Thune looked forward to collaborating with him as a fellow senator. He also praised Vice President-elect Vance's impact in the Senate and anticipated working together in advancing their agenda.

Reflecting on Ronald Reagan's influence on his political career, Thune conveyed optimism about America's future under Trump's leadership: "I believe that America’s best days lie ahead."
