U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune appeared on NBC's Today Show, discussing his relationship with President Trump and the legislative agenda ahead. Thune emphasized a strong partnership with the president, stating, "Our relationship is strong. We talk regularly, and obviously we have a big job ahead of us, an agenda that we share."

Thune outlined key priorities for the administration and Congress, including energy renewal, border security, economic strengthening, tax and regulation adjustments to prevent a significant tax increase, and military rebuilding. He expressed enthusiasm about these goals: "I think those are the priorities... we're excited about the prospect to... maximize this opportunity for the country."

Regarding collaboration between the Senate and the Trump administration, Thune highlighted the rarity of unified government: "Unified government doesn't come along very often... So, we want to make, take full advantage and act on the agenda that we believe that the president ran on and that the American people voted for." He acknowledged Congress's independent role but stressed cooperation with the president.

Thune also addressed the Senate's responsibility in providing advice and consent: "We are our own co-equal, independent branch of the government... Our senators take that role seriously." He reiterated their commitment to fulfilling their duties as mandated by voters.
