U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune delivered remarks on the Senate floor, congratulating President Trump and Vice President Vance on their inauguration. Thune expressed optimism about the future and emphasized the importance of confirming President Trump's nominees swiftly to ensure his administration can begin its work effectively.

"Our priority here in the Senate for the next few weeks is getting President Trump’s nominees confirmed, so that he has the team he needs in place to deliver," Thune stated. He highlighted recent efforts, noting that Senate committees held hearings on 12 nominees last week, with six Cabinet nominees considered in a single day.

Thune specifically mentioned Senator Marco Rubio's nomination as secretary of state and former congressman John Ratcliffe's nomination as head of the CIA. "Both of these men will bring a renewed focus to restoring American strength," he said.

In addition to confirmations, Thune outlined legislative priorities such as extending tax relief, reducing regulations from the previous administration, strengthening the military, and securing borders. The Senate recently considered the Laken Riley Act aimed at ensuring illegal aliens who commit crimes against law enforcement are detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Thune also referenced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas facilitated by President-elect Trump's firm stance post-election. "Thirty-three hostages – women and children, the injured, and those over 50 years old – will be released during the first phase of the ceasefire," he noted.

Concluding his remarks, Thune reiterated his congratulations to President Trump and Vice President Vance: "I look forward to all we can achieve together."
