U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune addressed the Senate regarding the nomination of Sean Duffy for the position of Secretary of Transportation. In his remarks, Thune emphasized Duffy's extensive experience and outlined the challenges currently facing the transportation sector.

Thune highlighted several issues that have impacted transportation in recent years, including safety concerns in air travel, supply chain disruptions at ports, and a shortage of pilots leading to reduced air service. He criticized the Biden administration's focus on electric vehicles and progressive policies in transportation.

"The American people expect to have a safe and efficient transportation system," Thune stated, emphasizing that this is the primary goal for the Department of Transportation and one that Duffy is committed to achieving.

Duffy's background as a five-term congressman and co-chair of the Great Lakes Task Force was noted by Thune. He mentioned infrastructure projects Duffy worked on, such as replacing an old bridge between Wisconsin and Minnesota and upgrading the Soo Locks. Senator Baldwin supported Duffy’s nomination, describing him as "the right person for this job." His unanimous bipartisan approval by the Commerce Committee was also highlighted.

During his confirmation hearing, Duffy shared personal insights into his commitment to transportation safety as a father of nine children. Thune acknowledged Duffy's understanding of rural infrastructure needs due to his Wisconsin roots.

Thune expressed confidence in Duffy's ability to work across party lines for effective infrastructure solutions. He concluded with anticipation for confirming both Mr. Bessent and Mr. Duffy soon.
