U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune addressed the Senate floor, delivering remarks critical of Democratic leadership and their response to inflation concerns. Thune's comments focused on what he described as hypocrisy from Democrats regarding economic issues and legislative tactics.
Thune began by noting, "It only took four years," referencing the time it took for Democratic leaders to express concern over inflation. He pointed out that the recent complaints about January's inflation numbers were attributed to former President Trump, despite President Biden being in office for most of January.
Thune stated, "Inflation was over 3 percent for more than two straight years during the Biden administration," adding that during this period, families faced an increase in living costs amounting to "$13,000 more per year" due to what he termed "Biden inflation."
He further criticized Democrats for their approach to using executive power and legislative procedures such as the filibuster. According to Thune, Democrats exhibit double standards by condemning Republican actions while employing similar strategies themselves when advantageous.
In concluding his remarks, Thune referred to media descriptions of Democrats as being "in disarray" and suggested that their current messaging efforts are weak and unfounded. He concluded by stating, "The hypocrisy is really something to behold."
