U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune addressed the press today, emphasizing the commitment of Senate Republicans to advancing President Trump's agenda swiftly. During his remarks, Thune highlighted the progress made in confirming 18 Cabinet or Cabinet-level nominations for the Trump administration, marking a rapid pace not seen since 2001.
"We’re encouraged with how that has been going," Thune stated, acknowledging the cooperation of colleagues despite facing significant opposition from Democrats. He noted that Kash Patel's confirmation was set for tomorrow, with more nominations planned for the following week.
Thune also discussed legislative priorities, referencing Senator Graham and the Budget Committee's recent report on a budget resolution. This resolution aligns with President Trump's top priorities: securing the border, strengthening national security through military rebuilding, and establishing energy dominance.
"The House is working on a different budget resolution," Thune said, expressing hope for its success and indicating collaboration between both chambers. The focus includes addressing tax priorities by extending and making permanent certain tax measures from 2017.
Thune concluded by reaffirming Republican senators' dedication to implementing the president's agenda: "If we achieve success, that’s going to be a good thing, not only for the president but for this country."
