U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) recently appeared on The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show, where he discussed various political topics including President Trump's joint address, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, and budget reconciliation.
Thune criticized Democrats' response to President Trump’s policies. "The Democrats are, I mean, they’re still in the stages of grief," he said. He suggested that Democrats are opposing Trump for the sake of opposition, describing it as "Trump Derangement Syndrome." Thune expressed his belief that Americans do not want disruption during presidential addresses.
Regarding President Trump's agenda, Thune highlighted border security improvements under Trump compared to the previous administration. He stated that fewer than 9,000 crossings occurred at the southern border in February under Trump’s leadership. "This is how dramatically things have changed already as a result of President Trump’s leadership," he noted.
Thune also addressed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, criticizing Democrats for voting against it. "[I]t’s mind-blowing to me that this has become a political issue," he said. Thune emphasized fairness and safety concerns regarding biological males competing against women in sports.
On budget reconciliation, Thune stressed the importance of enacting President Trump's priorities swiftly. These include securing borders, bolstering national defense, restoring energy dominance, and preventing tax increases. He expressed hope for making tax cuts permanent and using budget reconciliation to pass legislation with a 51-vote threshold.
