U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune recently appeared on Fox News' My View with Lara Trump to discuss the current political landscape in Washington and the influence of President Donald Trump. Thune highlighted Trump's significant role in both the House and Senate, especially during critical votes.

“He’s enormously influential in both the House and the Senate, and when it comes time for tough votes," said Thune. He emphasized Trump's ability to unify members towards a common goal, noting that "when necessary, the speaker deploys him."

Thune outlined key priorities for budget reconciliation, focusing on energy policies and tax relief. “The most immediate thing is this budget reconciliation bill...we talked about energy dominance, energy independence,” he stated. The senator also mentioned the need for spending reduction and investments in border security and military readiness.

Regarding confirming presidential nominees, Thune noted the extensive time commitment required by the Senate: “Well, I tell people, Lara, that for better or worse, the Senate spends about two-thirds of its time on personnel." He acknowledged that there are 1,100 executive branch positions requiring confirmation alongside judicial appointments.

Discussing Republican unity in Washington, Thune remarked on their collaboration with President Trump despite challenges from Democrats: “We want to be good partners to President Trump...and a lot of our members...they take time." He expressed frustration over Democratic opposition which he claims aims to "obstruct and block and delay" progress.

Overall, Thune stressed the importance of working together to advance their agenda during this period of Republican majorities: “There is a great unity...if we’re going to use this two years for our majorities – hopefully four – to the ultimate advantage.”
