U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune addressed the Senate, focusing on President Trump's efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He emphasized that for four months, Trump has made significant attempts to end the violence and commended him for these efforts.
Thune stated, "Now the ball is in Putin’s court." He urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to engage sincerely in peace talks by proposing an immediate ceasefire that could lead to a lasting resolution. Thune expressed hope that Putin would recognize the importance of this moment.
The Senate leader also mentioned readiness for action if diplomacy fails. Highlighting bipartisan support, he noted Senator Graham's role in developing legislation with 80 cosponsors aimed at imposing further economic sanctions and tariffs on Russia. Thune warned that if Russia does not participate seriously in negotiations, the Senate will collaborate with the Trump administration to consider additional measures against Russia.
