U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune appeared on Fox News' "America’s Newsroom" to discuss key legislative priorities, including pro-growth policies and enacting President Trump's agenda.
Thune criticized the use of a static scoring model by Washington scorekeepers, arguing it has previously underestimated economic growth and tax revenues. He stated, "When you reduce taxes on the American people and on small businesses, there is an incentive to invest more." Thune emphasized that such investments lead to better-paying jobs and increased tax revenue. He asserted that the current bill under discussion represents "the biggest spending reduction in history."
Addressing concerns about national debt, Thune remarked, "I think that the debt is unsustainably high," stressing the need for economic growth through pro-growth policies to balance government finances. He highlighted the importance of passing bills with significant spending reductions to address rising deficits.
Thune also outlined efforts to enact President Trump's agenda, which includes energy dominance, military modernization, border security, preventing a $4.5 trillion tax increase, and achieving federal spending savings. He mentioned collaboration with the White House to refine and improve upon legislative proposals from the House.
On Republican unity in Washington, Thune stated their commitment to advancing President Trump’s agenda despite differing opinions within Congress. He said they aim to avoid a substantial tax increase while restoring America's energy dominance and providing tax relief for working families.
